2011 is off to a great start.  Board President Elizabeth Gullam and Director of English Education Kathleen Hart-Zavoli are off to Cambodia next week, accompanied by a longtime supporter and joined in Cambodia by one of our wonderful volunteers. Kathleen will spend several days at the Cambodia Tomorrow School in Kompong Speu, observing classes, meeting with the teachers and evaluating our program.  Elizabeth will meet with our program director Ken, our university graduates and make a trip to the Cardamom Mountains to observe the elementary school program Kari Grady-Grossman has developed for Sustainable Schools International.  Cambodia Tomorrow may host students from this program when they arrive in Kompong Speu for their high school education.

Look for new photos, video and follow our blog during this exciting trip!

Our successful holiday appeal will enable us to invite more community children into our school, as we continue to support our teachers.  We also contribute to basic needs at Kompong Speu Orphan Center. Thank you to our donors and scholarship sponsors.

If you haven't yet contributed, it's not too late. Please consider making a contribution of Cambodia Tomorrow and join our list of contributors.   There's a donor level that's right for every family.  Annual sponsorships will be included in determining donor level.

From the Cambodia Tomorrow School

Each month, our Program Manager Ken visits the Cambodia Tomorrow School. He meets with the teachers and Pol Sok Ly, the director of the Kompong Speu Orphan Center.

Ken writes that during their January meeting, he and Pol Sok Ly reviewed guidelines with the students...

Study: all group leaders must help those who lack in studying or always absent in their studying

Living: good behavior, prepare their bedroom, clothes, hygiene, health, play

Eating: behavior in eating, good nutrition

Solidarity: be kind and loving to each other

Soeng Kosal is a Junior at Norton University and has always been an outstanding student.

He writes:

I am really busy with my study which there are a lots homework and assignments.  Now, my school start to take mid-term test, and I prepare lesson for it, more homework and assignments everyday. I would like to apply for a job, but I think that it effect my university class, because I study full time. Most jobs advertise for full time candidate such as bank, micro finance and non-profit organization.  I will complete my bachelor degree, then I will get a good job and well paid.

I try to help my friends like Vann Sarin and Kim Srouch find for a job.  I always read the announcement board at my school.  Many companies stick notes there, so I write name of company and organization for them. They try hard to apply for jobs, they buy newspapers and search internet for job page every day.

I  wish you with all the best.

Kosal
